Here is the thing about Queen's Hideaway. Everything about it feels casual, downhome, loveable, except the prices. You can walk in feeling all relaxed and sit down anywhere. The look of the place is lovely and relaxed, the people are lovely and relaxed, the food feels lovely and relaxed even though it seems like they pretty much know what they are doing in possibly a more serious restauranty kind of way.
The New York Magazine review says, "Don’t go when you’re in a rush, or with people who can’t relax, or who demand air-conditioning, or ice in their water, or stemware for wine. Or wine." (note: It's not BYO anymore)
Doesn't that sound lovely and relaxed? Normally all of this would equal my favorite restaurant ever.
If only I were rich enough to feel lovely and relaxed about their prices. But I, like many of my Greenpoint neighbors, am nonrich. And it sort of ruins the wander-in, sit-wherever, eat casualdelicious feeling when you are spending the kind of money your bank account doesn't allow you to be relaxed about spending.
I'm not saying that they charge too much for what they give you. I'm just sort of sad that everything feels so downhome and welcoming to me except the dollars.
