The Ash Box Cafe, located on Manhattan Ave between Ash and Box streets is nice little spot for a variety of foods that don't require much cooking as they don't have a full kitchen. Their brewed coffee used to be decent but has gone done hill since it changed ownership early in 2006. The espresso is still decent.
Breakfast items include bagels, scones, granola/yoghurt/fruit, breads (including a rotating line of poppy seed, bannana, and other fruit breads), lox, pastries, etc. On the weekends (but maybe always?) they have waffles, scrambled eggs and some other breakfast items.
They always have a small assortment of sandwiches which you can't find elsewhere (this not your typical boar's head deli selection) including peanut butter and jelly ('the manhattan avenue') and sausage ('the browerville'). They also have salads which are pretty good.
Prices are decent, but sometimes I think the salads and sandwiches are a dollar or so too much for what you get, but I'm a cheap bastard.
The counterstaff vary from polite to slightly indifferent and sometimes I think they are making fun of me. Janusz rocks.
